The Brussels Christmas Tree Debate

December 16, 2012
This year the traditional Christmas tree at the Grand Place in Brussels has been exchanged by a more modern, futuristic piece of art which should represent a tree.

Here’s last years tree:
a big traditional fir tree with hundreds of lights with a christmas related light projection on the buildings around (snowflakes etc)

&this years piece of art:
a big white construction that changes its colors and has a light&music show every half hour
(costs X times more than the traditional tree)

I have to admit that on the pictures this years ‘tree’ looks pretty cool! Being on the Grand Place however, I couldn’t really feel that Christmas vibe that the old traditional tree broadcasted!
Don’t get me wrong, I liked the music&light show, which includes the buildings around, I just don’t think that it matches the Christmas time. Okay yeah the thing has the shape of a tree, but that’s all!
I’d rather see the show and a piece of art similar to this (maybe not a tree then) around New Years Eve.
Most of my friends share my opinion, so what about you? Has anyone of you also seen it ‘live’?

I hope you all had a great weekend. Happy 3rd Advent!
